our deepest fear

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

-marianne williamson,

a return to love

i’ve been thinking about this a lot recently.  how we are afraid to be big and wonderful and embrace our genius (and how we think it would be horrible to admit to the world that we have something important to give).  i’ve been thinking a lot about where my life is going, and what’s the next turn, and how i want to make sure i am intentionally choosing the narrow gate, rather than just going along with the flow and getting caught up in the wide road.  i’ve been thinking, a lot, about the people around me.  so many talented amazing people!  and i wonder how many of them have even More to shine but they’re holding back, for some reason thinking it wouldn’t be right to show off.  or something.

so friends:  shine.  i will cheer you on, and thank you for liberating me in the process.

It’s so weird when you read something that formulates ideas you’ve had in your head – but couldn’t make them coherent. That is exactly what happened here, and I am really thankful that you wrote this post (and that I read it!).
